Everything seems to costs more these days, with the credit crunch and global issues forcing food, fuel and bill prices skywards. But even though money is tight, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to stop spending altogether – there are ways to fight back. Just making a few simple changes to your lifestyle can make a world of difference. You should keep a spending diary for a couple of weeks and work out exactly where all your money is going: this will enable you to get a handle on your income and expenditure. For example, are you paying too much for your utility bills? Try shopping around to get a better deal. Have you used price comparison websites to get great discounts on your gas, electricity and broadband? And do you switch off all your electrical appliances instead of leaving them in standby? These are all great ways to save money.
When it comes to food shopping, it’s a fatal mistake to hit the shops with a hungry stomach – you’ll end up piling the trolley full of items that you don’t really need. And seeing as every person in the UK wastes an average of £400 of food per year, it makes sense to plan ahead and only buy what you really need. Transport can be costly too, but it’s easy to save money immediately – cycle to work instead of driving, save cash on fuel and get fit in the process!
You really can save money easily by making just a few small changes – soon you’ll really feel the difference and feel more in control of your finances.
