Beauty and the beef recipe

Bianca Gascoigne beefed it up for her main course on Come Dine With Me Celebrity Pantomime Special

Serves 5

Ingredients

  • Olive oil, for frying
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 sticks celery, finely chopped
  • 1kg stewing beef, diced
  • Plain flour, for dusting
  • ½ bottle red wine
  • 400g can chopped tomatoes
  • 3 beef stock cubes
  • Handful of parsley, chopped
  • Mashed potatoes, to serve

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 170°C/gas mark 3. Heat some of the oil in a frying pan and fry the onion, garlic and celery until soft. Transfer to an ovenproof casserole.

  2. Place the beef in a food bag with the flour and shake to coat. Heat some more oil in the pan and brown the beef all over.

  3. Transfer the beef to the casserole and cover with the red wine, tomatoes, beef stock cubes, parsley and salt and pepper. Cover with a lid and cook in the oven for 4 hours. Serve with mash.
