Balsamic strawberries with shortbread and squashed frog recipe

Will this simple dessert from businessman Scott Johnson prevent him from winning the cash prize on Come Dine With Me Chelmsford?

Serves 5


  • 250g white chocolate
  • 5 small handfuls strawberries, chopped
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 300ml double cream
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 250g strawberries, chopped
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Whipped cream


  1. Melt the chocolate in a bowl set over a pan of just simmering water then allow to cool.

  2. Meanwhile mix together the chopped strawberries, vinegar and honey. Spoon the strawberries into serving glasses, leaving any excess vinegar.

  3. Beat the cream until light and thick. Stir the egg yolk into the chocolate, then using an electric whisk, briefly whisk in a third of the cream until the mixture is smooth.

  4. Gently fold in the remaining cream with a spatula, divide between the serving glasses and chill for at least 30 minutes.

  5. Mix the strawberries with the balsamic vinegar and a little sugar. Spoon into serving glasses and top with whipped cream. Serve with the white chocolate mousse.
