Apple and rhubarb crumble recipe

Alan's Medieval night on Come Dine With Me East London ended with this suitably rustic British dessert

Serves 4


  • 450g plain flour
  • 250g butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Handful of oats
  • 4 Bramley apples, peeled cored and sliced
  • 150g mixed berries


  1. Sieve the flour into a bowl and rub in the butter using fingertips. When the mixture resembles breadcrumbs mix in the sugar and oats.
  2. Layer the apples and berries in 5 cooking rings set on a baking sheet. Bake for 20-30 minutes until golden.
  3. Transfer to serving plates and serve with cream or ice cream.
