Goats cheese and red onion tart recipe

Kate made these individual tarts for her starter on Come Dine With Me Mid Cornwall

Serves 4


  • 425g packet ready-rolled shortcrust pastry
  • 2 red onions, sliced
  • 4 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 pieces Chevre goat's cheeses, sliced in half through the middle
  • 1 bag of rocket, to serve

For the dressing

  • 50g raspberries
  • Splash of orange juice
  • 2 tsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar


  1. Preheat the oven to 170°C/gas mark 3. Line 4 individual tart tins with the pastry and blind bake for 15 minutes until starting to colour.

  2. Meanwhile in a saucepan gently heat the onion and balsamic vinegar for about 15 minutes.

  3. Season the onion mixture, then spoon into the pastry cases. Top with goat's cheese and bake for 20 minutes.

  4. For the dressing, but the raspberries, orange juice, maple syrup and balsamic vinegar into a saucepan and heat gently for 15 minutes. Allow to cool.

  5. Serve the tarts with the salad and raspberry dressing.
