Carly goes for a classic tart combo to kick her dinner party off on Come Dine With Me Wakefield
For the salad
Preheat the oven to 200°C/gas mark 6. Melt the butter in a frying pan and gently fry the onion until soft. Add the sugar and continue to cook gently until golden and caramelised.
Roll the pastry out to 5mm thick then cut into 10cm rounds and place on a non-stick baking tray. Spoon a tablespoonful of mixture onto the centre of each circle then scatter generously with goat’s cheese.
Brush the exposed pastry with egg yolk and place the figs on the tray too. Bake both for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
Toss the salad leaves with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and serve with the tarts, with the roasted figs on top.
