Always a crowd-pleaser, scones are the perfect afternoon tea treat

Preheat the oven to 200°C/gas mark 6. Sieve the flour into a large mixing bowl, add the baking powder, butter and rub the mixture together until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir the sugar and work in enough milk to get a soft dough.
Form the mixture into a rough, round shape, kneading as little as possible. Using scone cutters, cut the dough into rounds and place on a lightly floured baking tray.
Bake in the oven at for 10-15 minutes until golden.
Tip: To make cheese scones simply substitute the sugar for 120g of grated cheese. For a rich finish add 2 eggs to the mixture and add some grated cheese to the top of the scone before baking.
