Plum chutney recipe

For a thoughtful and tasty gift look no further than this plum chutney recipe

Makes 4-6 jars

Ingredients

  • 1kg plums, destoned and chopped
  • 600ml cider vinegar
  • 300g soft brown sugar
  • 1 cooking apple, chopped
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tsp each ground cumin, coriander, cinnamon
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • Pinch of salt

Method

  1. Place the fruit in a large saucepan or jam pan. Add the vinegar, sugar, apple, onion, spices, chilli and a pinch of salt. Bring to the boil and simmer for 1-1½ hours.

  2. Allow the mixture to cool then pour into sterile jam jars and seal with a wax disc. Label the jars and store in a cool, dark place.
