Watch your fingers - in this video we're getting handy with knives
It's the very first rule of cooking: make sure your knife is sharp. Using a blunt knife not only makes kitchen prep a real chore, it can also be dangerous as the blade can easily slip and cut you.
But how many of us actually sharpen our knives? Or even know how to? The answer is very few. But don't worry, Gordon's right here in an exclusive 4Food video to explain all.
Using a wooden or plastic chopping board will help to keep your knife sharp. And don't put your best blades into the dishwasher, all that klinking around will take the edge out of kilter.
For good practice, use a steel before and after a chopping session to keep your knife super sharp. But if the blade has become completely blunted, no amount of steeling will make a difference - you'll need to get a new edge ground into it by a specialist knife sharpening service.
If you want to get the Ramsay edge, Gordon's video masterclass will give you the sharpest knives in the drawer. Watch carefully, practice and perfect the technique - and prepare to be amazed by the difference a sharpened blade makes.
Not only will it transform your chopping, cutting and dicing performance, you'll be able to use your flashing blade skills to wow your friends whenever they pop over for dinner.
