Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

Perfectly summed up by his nickname, Hugh Fearlessly Eats It All, the curly-haired River Cottage frontman... is a hero for adventurous foodies everywhere.
A writer, campaigner and chef, Hugh is committed to ethical and organic eating, seasonal produce and a back to basics philosophy.
After graduating from Oxford and embarking on a conservation career in Africa, Hugh spent time as a chef at the River Café, then began working as a food journalist. His first foray into TV was in Cook on the Wild Side and then TV Dinners, where he earned his reputation as an earthy gourmet by knocking up treats from country hedgerows and roadkill.
In 1997 Hugh moved to River Cottage, a smallholding in Netherbury, Dorset, and challenged himself to adopt a self-sufficient lifestyle, growing and farming all of his own food. The rural location became the base for many Channel 4 shows, including Escape to River Cottage, Return to River Cottage and River Cottage Forever.
In 2006 Hugh and the gang moved River Cottage HQ to Park Farm, a new premises on the Dorset/Devon border, where they have filmed more shows, run cookery courses, opened a Canteen and Deli in nearby Axminster and spearheaded campaigns such as Chicken Out!, Landshare and most recently, the Fish Fight.
With his eccentric approach and simple, wholesome recipes, Hugh works hard to encourage us all to eat better food, from better places – and have some fun in the process.
