Success Stories

Patricia Varley

The first job I got from the database was a part in 'Doctors make Mistakes', in which I died a slow and painful death as a result of medical errors, then a more jolly job as the singing voice-over for the Curry's ad - "always lowering prices"!

More recently I got a part playing Margaret Thatcher in a film directed by Alison Jackson for More4's 'The Last Word'. A jolly scene with a Tony Blair look-a-like, drinking apple juice (supposed to be whiskey) and trying to blow out 80 candles, then off to a betting shop to place my bet for my favourite candidate to be the new leader of the Conservative party. Punters in the shop thought I really was Margaret and wished me happy birthday!

Next I replied to an ad to take part in the Channel 4 series 'Come Dine with Me'. The producer and director came to see me at my apartment and did some filming, then booked me for five days which were very hectic but great fun - a splendid and efficient crew. I enjoyed the four other people and my cooking day worked out fine though a bit traumatic as I had not used my two eye-level ovens before.

Many thanks Channel 4 and 4Disabled Talent, you are encouraging us all to get out there and work!
