HPI's role in the motor trade is crucial. It provides used car retailers, finance houses and the insurance industry throughout the UK with access to information on all UK registered vehicles.
Using HPI allows dealers to confirm whether a vehicle may be subject to outstanding finance, is currently recorded as stolen or has previously been 'written-off' by an insurance company. HPI will also confirm that the make, model, colour, door plan and engine size as well as fuel type and transmission match the description recorded against the vehicle at the time of manufacture. In doing so it supports dealers in meeting their legal obligations.
The National Mileage Register, created in 1997 is the largest database of mileages in the UK, providing dealers and their customers with protection against the scourge of 'clocking' and the risk of prosecution by Trading Standards.
HPI continues to grow and make investments in new technology to provide the motor trade with the most reliable information but also making access to the data even easier. 60% of all enquiries are now processed by HPI using internet technology. And most manufacturers include the HPI Check as part of their approved used car programmes.
