Quality-wise, Volvos are generally perceived as being one rung below the generally more expensive alternatives from the premium German manufacturers. The Swedish cars often look better than they feel to the touch; the C30 is particularly guilty in this regard, with too many wobbly hinges. But the overall impression given by the XC90 is that this is a classy, well-built car that uses good-quality materials and should go on for a long time.
