Comfortable seats, good ride quality on smaller wheels.
Doesn't have the cachet of competitors, nor is it as good to drive.
An improvement over predecessor, but it's still not up to the German competition.

Eight years after the original made its debut, here's the latest Volvo S80 saloon.
It is an evolution of the original, as opposed to a step change, an indication of parent company Ford's confidence in the design direction established by the Mk1 S80. The design has been tightened up, with the car given a more planted stance thanks to much chunkier sills and doors that feature a convex rather than concave construction.
The new S80 has a range of engines including 2.5 Turbo and 3.2 straight-six petrols plus two five-cylinder diesels, with a storming 315bhp V8 petrol leading the charge. Remarkably, all engines, including the straight-six, are mounted transversely, which helps the crash performance of all models - safety remains at the heart of what Volvo does.
