Good fuel economy, low emissions, punchy performance, comfortable seats.
Fidgety ride, not as good to drive as competition, frustrating electric handbrake.
The best S80 in the range still lags behind the competition.

Volvo hasn't entered any S80s for the voluntary Euro NCAP crash tests, so its crash performance hasn't been independently evaluated. However, if the big Volvo was crash tested we think it would live up to the Swedish firm's reputation of producing some of the safest cars on the market. All S80s come equipped with stability control, side and curtain bags as well as knee bags.
There's also standard Intelligent Driver Information System that monitors throttle inputs, steering angle and indicator action to monitor the driver's stress levels and delays any incoming calls and texts if it thinks you're too stressed.
To make the S80 even safer you can fit the blind spot detector (BLIS £450) that senses vehicles using cameras that are obscured from view.
Adaptive cruise is not available on the 2.0D, but there is the option of a lane departure warning system (£500).
