Very refined, very comfortable, very relaxing, characterful engines, soothing over long distances, good looks freshened up for 2005
Not as much fun as a 3-Series, town ride not as good as a C-Class, not as economical as it ought to be.
A very impressive car from Volvo; not racy but refined and very satisfying over the long term. A very well-rounded car, particularly in D5 diesel form.

There are not many S60s on the used market, as it doesn't sell in the volumes of BMW's 3-Series and Audi's A4. Those which have appeared, however, have performed strongly, with depreciation that's a credit to Volvo's new-found reputation.
Choose diesel or good-looking 2.4-litre models for best resale; T5s are prohibitive to insure for some, while the 2.0-litre variants, though affordable, are not as desirable overall as the 2.4-litre.
Even base S60s are well-equipped, with standard air conditioning, multitude of airbags, alloy wheels, ABS brakes and CD player. Move up to SE trim for welcome extras such as climate control and CD autochanger. As mentioned, all S60s also feature expensive-sounding five-cylinder turbo engines, which add to the luxury feel, though options are extensive and expensive; restraint is easy, unless you're flush with cash.
