Volkswagen Touran (2003-) Review

Category: Compact MPV 3 out of 5

Summary of the Volkswagen Touran (2003-)

Price Range: £16,225 to £17,945

Assets

Easy to drive, loads of safety kit, solid build, excellent suspension and handling, great for towing.

Drawbacks

No character, no single 'must-have' or distinguishing feature, van-like looks.

Verdict

The Touran is immensely competent, but not particularly thrilling; not a car to inspire passion, devotion, or even family fondness.

Volkswagen Touran Review

Safety and Security5 out of 5

After losing out on the fifth star in the EuroNCAP crash tests due to not having a seat belt reminder chime, VW added one to the standard specification of the Touran, and after a retest was then duly awarded the full five-star rating.

Driver, front passenger, side and head-level airbags are standard on all seats, even the two rearmost in the seven-seat models. Every seat also gets three-point seatbelts and head restraints, there are two Isofix child-seat mounting points on the outer seats of the middle row, and active head restraints and height-adjustable seat belts for the front seat occupants.

Electronic safety aids include ABS brakes with Brake Assist, ASR (anti-skid reduction) and ESP (electronic stability programme), standard on all models. All versions have remote central locking.
