Category: Small Family
Price Range: £19,295 to £26,225
VW image; compact size; manageable running costs; car-like driveability; reasonably practical.
Dull styling; expensive for what it is.
Pleasant, smart and accomplished, but not terribly exciting.

Volkswagen's reputation for build quality and reliability took a downturn a few years back, but it seems to have turned the corner again. The Wolfsburg-built Tiguan looks, so far, solid, well screwed together and finished with good attention to detail.
The TDI diesel is well proven, and the newer TSI supercharged/turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine has undergone extensive durability testing and should be extremely robust, despite its small capacity.
