Category: Large MPV
Price Range: £20,110 to £26,160
Classy Volkswagen image, good to drive .
Lack of storage space, getting very dated now .
Suitable for an affluent, multi-offspring lifestyle but hardly state-of-the-art.

Volkswagen's Sharan has been one of the most popular large MPVs, along with its almost identical sister models, the Ford Galaxy and the Seat Alhambra, but all are now losing ground to more modern rivals - they're nearly ten years old now and it shows.
Large, but not as roomy as an Espace or latest C8/807/Ulysse, smart but not as stylish as, say, a Previa or Espace and good to drive, but not as refined as the Espace (again). The gap is also closing between these models and the new smaller, cheaper but nearly as roomy models like the Scenic and MPV-estate crossovers like the 307 SW, Zafira and so on.
Receiving minor updates for summer 2004, the Sharan currently comes with 2.0-litre (115bhp), 1.8T (150bhp) and 2.8 V6 (204bhp, with four-wheel drive) petrol engines, or the preferred 1.9 TDI PD (115bhp or 130bhp).
