Looks great, fun to drive, cheap to run.
Poor rear visibility, steering vagueness, cabin lacks exterior's flair.
Volkswagen succeeds in making a desirable coupe without compromises.

The Scirocco is based on the current mark 5 Golf, meaning it should fare at least as well in the reliability stakes as the VW hatch. That car hasn't been completely fault-free though, with owners of the early versions reporting the odd electrical and mechanical gremlin.
Perhaps the four years the Golf has been on sale has given Wolfsburg enough time to iron out the faults and the Scirocco will be more reliable.
The brand currently ranks joint 13th with Nissan in the most recent JD Power survey - that's above the industry average with owners generally happy with the Golf's running costs and drive, but citing some issues with problematic air conditioning.
Where quality concerns, the Scirocco impresses. Our test car was flawless and the frameless doors give a real impression of class. Inside, it adopts the higher quality Eos coupe convertible centre console and dash, meaning higher grades of plastic.
