Most efficient and lowest polluting in class, common rail's flexibility.
Gearing restricts performance, BlueMotion price premium.
Hugely improved engine plus stop-start increases the BlueMotion's appeal considerably.

Less than twelve months since we last climbed behind the wheel of a Passat BlueMotion, Volkswagen has already brought out a sequel: the BlueMotion 2.
Why so quick? It's so VW could replace the old 'pumpe duse' diesel with its smoother and quieter new common rail engine, as well as adding stop-start. Crucially, it was an opportunity to make the Passat the most efficient large family car money in its class.
On paper, the BlueMotion 2 is nothing short of spectacular, offering an irresistible 57.6mpg and 128g/km of carbon dioxide. But, as with all BlueMotion models, it comes with a caveat: the Passat BlueMotion 2 costs £465 more than the base S model with the same new engine.
We also have problems with the way other BlueMotion vehicles drive, especially the way the longer gearing stunts performance. Has VW listened and made the car easier to live with? Read on and find out.
