Though the Jetta hasn't gone through the Euro NCAP crash test programme yet, the Golf scored the full five stars and Volkswagen expects the Jetta to do the same, also achieving four stars for child protection and three for pedestrian protection - an all-round good result.
Standard equipment includes twin front and side airbags, front and rear curtain airbags, active front head restraints to protect against whiplash injury, Isofix child seat mounting points and optional compatible child seats, seatbelt pre-tensioners with load limiters, stability control (ESP) and ABS with an electronic differential lock, traction control and hydraulic brake assist.
The spec sheet is equally comprehensive in terms of security devices: free-wheeling lock cylinders and shielded locks, a copy-proof key, alternating-code remote central locking and immobiliser, an alarm and integrated system linking the locking, alarm and immobiliser, electric windows and internal lighting.
