Volkswagen Golf Estate Review

Overview4 out of 5

Volkswagen has been building estate versions of its Golf hatchback since 1993 and, with 1.2m sold to date, the company has high hopes for this, its third iteration.

Although aimed squarely at the fleet market (VW anticipates 65% will go to fleet customers), the Golf Estate will be a good alternative for growing families, offering plenty of space and all the usual reasons for buying a Golf.

Launched with three engines - 1.6-litre petrol and 1.9 and 2.0-litre diesel - and three trim levels - S, SE and Sport Wagon - there will be enough options for all potential buyers, although VW estimates that a third of buyers will go for the basic S trim level in combination with the 1.9-litre diesel engine.
