Vauxhall Zafira (2005-) Review

Category: Compact MPV 4 out of 5

Summary of the Vauxhall Zafira (2005-)

Price Range: £16,015 to £24,375

Assets

Even more spacious and practical than before, better to drive and better looking, class-leading safety.

Drawbacks

Still a bit on the dull side to look at, badge snobs will look elsewhere.

Verdict

A brilliant package that's been cleverly evolved into a class leader.

Vauxhall Zafira Review

Running Costs4 out of 5

The previous Zafira fared reasonably well when it came to one of the biggest costs of ownership: depreciation. We'd expect the new one to do even better, as it has the distinct advantage of being a fresh, new model. It's insurance-friendly, too, with entry-level models in Group 5. The new Zafira has also been designed to be cheap and easy to repair, particularly in the event of low-speed shunts. The car contains a 'crashbox' between the bumper cross members and the body, which is effectively a bolted-on metal section that absorbs impacts. In the event of a minor bump, it can simply be removed, discarded and replaced without the need for any expensive jigging or straightening.

The diesel engines are frugal and tax efficient, too, with the 120bhp 1.9 producing just 165g/km of CO2. And apart from an interim check at 20,000 miles, tbe new Zafira only needs a main service every two years or 40,000 miles.
