Vauxhall Zafira (2005-) Review

Category: Compact MPV 4 out of 5

Summary of the Vauxhall Zafira (2005-)

Price Range: £16,015 to £24,375

Assets

Even more spacious and practical than before, better to drive and better looking, class-leading safety.

Drawbacks

Still a bit on the dull side to look at, badge snobs will look elsewhere.

Verdict

A brilliant package that's been cleverly evolved into a class leader.

Vauxhall Zafira Review

Overview4 out of 5

The latest Zafira MPV is more of an evolution than a dramatic step-change, largely a reflection of the success of the previous model, which accounted for a full 40% of all seven-seat MPV sales, outselling the rest of the top 10 players combined.

Instantly recognisable as a Zafira, the new car sports a slightly more muscular stance, with Vauxhall also making bold claims about better perceived and actual quality. The car's star turn, the Flex 7 seating arrangement, survives virtually unchanged.

Designers have also done a good job disguising the Zafira's pronounced front overhang, necessary as this new Vauxhall is one of the first cars to comply with the latest European pedestrian safety guidelines.

As with the previous generation Zafira, there's also a road-burning model, this time badged VXR, using the same 240bhp engine found in the Astra VXR.
