Practical and with brilliant rear seat packaging, Vauxhall shows the way forward for small MPVs

Since its launch in June 2003, the Meriva has proved pretty dependable, which, considering it uses so many components from other cars in the Vauxhall range, should come as no surprise. As yet, the only faults reported have been minor power steering problems in the diesel.
The interior's not unpleasant, either. The large dashboard is made of a nice chunky textured plastic and the centre console will be familiar to any Corsa or Omega owner. There's a lot of fabric on the doors, but somehow it suits the Meriva's family-friendly status. The steering wheel rim could be nicer; its one-piece moulding feels just a little cheap.
