Category: Hot Hatchbacks
Price Range: £15,405 to £22,000
Good performance, smooth engines, comfortable over distance
Not the most engaging hot hatches, indifferent residual values
Surprisingly good hot-hatch serves up good performance, if not outright thrills

Residual values are not outstanding over the short-term from new, but few cars in this market sector offer good returns on that score. Expect to see around 40 percent of its original list price retained after three years/60,000 miles. This isn't unusual in this class, though, and because so many go to fleets; very few Astras are bought at list price.
Astras are typically quite durable so quality and reliability is unlikely to be a problem, and because these cars aren't revered as out-and-out boy-racer hot hatchbacks, they're more likely to have remained un-thrashed. Of the hot hatches out there, the Astra is one of the better used buys.
One problem you might have is finding an SRi or GSi - they are quite rare. However, given the initial depreciation, those available should be at a decent price.
