Category: Small 4x4s
Price Range: £24,895 to £24,895
Nice looking, compact, classier than its Korean rivals.
Gutless petrol engine, uninspiring to drive, not that cheap.
No match for X-Trail, RAV4, CR-V or Freelander.

Initially, it all looks good: after all, it's cheap to buy in the first place (from £19,995, though the 2.0 CDTi auto is a rather frightening £27,700), which minimises depreciation, insurance groups are low (from 11E) and there are long service intervals - not that Vauxhall parts and servicing is highly priced anyway.
However, the carbon dioxide outputs are high for a relatively compact vehicle: the 2.4 petrol (with 29.4mpg fuel economy, poorer than that of the 2WD Captiva 2.4) puts out 229g/km, the manual diesel (37.2mpg) 198g/km and the auto diesel (32.8mpg) 225g/km. That's band F tax for the manual diesel, and the top-rate band G for the others, classed alongside Range Rovers, Cayennes and other large 4x4s. Bear in mind band G cars are already liable for higher-cost residents' parking permits in some boroughs and congestion charging is spreading and getting more expensive.
