Nice looking, compact, classier than its Korean rivals.
Gutless petrol engine, uninspiring to drive, not that cheap.
No match for X-Trail, RAV4, CR-V or Freelander.

The Antara is built alongside the Captiva in Korea, and the GM Daewoo factory generally makes tough and durable cars. It's not overly complex, so there's not too much to go wrong. The diesel engine's built in Korea as well, while the 2.4 petrol comes from GM's subsidiary in Australia, Holden.
The attention to detail looks a little better than in the Captivas we've seen, with a slightly nicer quality interior and fewer rattles and squeaks, though this is still clearly a cut-price car, albeit an inoffensive one with the familiar Vauxhall dashboard, stereo and cabin fittings. Black marks for the cheap-looking chrome-effect plastics, though, especially the surrounds for the air vents and centre console which reflect onto the windscreen. Externally, it all seems solidly built.
