Excellent quality, great diesel, car-like driving dynamics, Toyota reliability.
Petrol engine not powerful enough, some versions expensive, now five-door only, no joie de vivre.
The RAV4 has become all sensible and grown-up. It's a great car, but where's the fun gone?

A total of nine airbags - including a driver's knee-protecting airbags - are fitted as standard across the range. Three-point seatbelts and headrests are fitted to all five seats, with the front two featuring a whiplash protection system which moves the headrest and seat forward in the event of a rear-end shunt. Two Isofix child seat mounting points are fitted to the rear seats. The front passenger airbag can be disengaged to allow a rear-facing child seat to be fitted.
The RAV4 has recorded a four star result for adult protection in the Euro NCAP crash tests, with an excellent four stars (out of four) for child protection and three for pedestrian protection - it's only the second SUV, after the Honda CR-V, to achieve the latter result.
