Clever packaging; a more flexible engine; premium feel.
Noisy engine; too expensive; tries too hard to be something it's not.
Although the 98bhp engine adds cruising ability, Toyota's city car doesn't need it when you consider the higher purchase price and greater running costs.

The iQ's packaging is very clever and you can pack a lot in for a car so small. Seating four adults isn't really an option, but three adults and one small child is manageable for short distances. There's no boot to speak of, but the space provided by folding the jump seat down allows space for shopping and smaller pieces of luggage. There are also plenty of cubbies and an elastic net storage in the cabin.
We like clever touches such as the cut-out dashboard, which allows the front-seat passenger to sit further forward than the driver, leaving more room behind. For those who usually drive one- or two-up, the iQ will be perfect. Anyone over 6ft 4in may struggle with the headroom, but everyone else will find this little car remarkably spacious, particularly compared with a Smart.
This specific iQ 3 model is also very well equipped, with Bluetooth, automatic headlights and wipers, 16" alloys and sat nav among the standard kit. Then again, given its sky-high price tag, you'd reasonably expect to find them included.
