Toyota iQ3 (2009-) Review

Category: City Cars 3 out of 5

Summary of the Toyota iQ3 (2009-)

Price Range: £10,495 to £11,615

Assets

Clever packaging; a more flexible engine; premium feel.

Drawbacks

Noisy engine; too expensive; tries too hard to be something it's not.

Verdict

Although the 98bhp engine adds cruising ability, Toyota's city car doesn't need it when you consider the higher purchase price and greater running costs.

Toyota iQ Review

Used Value3 out of 5

Early indications suggest that the iQ will hold its value extremely well. Toyota's small cars tend to do so, but the iQ has the added benefit of being funky, different, rare and extremely cheap to run.

An expensive, fully equipped model such as the iQ 3 is likely to lose more in the way of value compared with the lower-specced models, however.

It's predicted that the iQ will retain more than a third of its value after three years. The cheaper Toyota Aygo achieves a similar feat, but Toyota will sell far fewer iQs than Aygos, making it less common and, consequently, more desirable.

There's also a fair chance that the iQ will become an iconic piece of automotive design - just like the Smart car - which will help boost values.
