Toyota Aygo (2005-) Review

Category: City Cars 4.5 out of 5

Summary of the Toyota Aygo (2005-)

Price Range: £7,505 to £9,055

Assets

A real charmer inside and out, very low running costs, genuine space for four adults, good ride and handling compromise.

Drawbacks

Tiny boot, rear seats don't slide, limited colour choice.

Verdict

A charming little city car that reminds us of the original Citroen 2CV with its character and honest simplicity.

Toyota Aygo Review

Running Costs5 out of 5

The Toyota, Citroen and Peugeot trio are all priced on par with each other. That said, the Toyota will almost certainly be worth more than the French duo when it comes time to sell, as the Toyota brand carries with it the sheen of reliability and quality, never mind that its actually the same car built on the same line. In terms of 'value for money', it'll be best to avoid optioning-up the Aygo, as you'll end up with a very expensive city car, which defeats the point. Air-conditioning is the only extra we'd specify.

The Aygo is a remarkably cheap car to run and sits in the lowest insurance groups. Also, Aygo claims the lowest cumulative scheduled maintenance time to 60,000 miles - just 4.2 hours. Factor in class-leading fuel consumption of 61.4mpg and a superb three-year, 60,000 mile warranty and you're looking at one of the least expensive to run new cars in the UK.
