Toyota's UK-built Avensis is a typical roomy, mainstream family car with the emphasis on painless ownership rather than glamour. The name means nothing in particular - like many, it was invented by a branding company - and there are no glamorous or sporty Avensis models to add excitement to the range, just the usual 1.6/1.8/2.0 models, although the all-new D4-D direct-injection diesel is worth a mention.
This type of car is at the core of the company-car sector, but is popular with private buyers, too.
