Great handling, good ride quality, four-wheel drive, unique feel, smooth engines.
Anonymous styling, cheap-looking cabin, not particularly practical, noisy engines.
Still a bit of an oddball, and that's no bad thing.

The four-wheel drive system, backed up on the 2.0-litre models by electronic Vehicle Dynamics Control (a type of stability control which can brake individual wheels) will help keep you out of trouble. Should the worst happen, front, side and curtain airbags are standard. Most models have whiplash-protecting head restraints and the 2.0R adds xenon headlights.
It's not as extensive a safety specification as in some rivals, and although Subaru is promising improved occupant and pedestrian protection from the new bonnet, front end design and framed side windows, giving a stronger structure, there are no Euro NCAP crash test results yet.
