Imposing wide-hipped looks, decent ride, searing on-boost pace.
Uninspiring engine, poor steering, cheap-feeling interior.
The STi flags behind better, more entertaining rivals.

Subaru's flagship Impreza 2.5 WRX STi Type UK may be a mouthful to say, but it can hold its head high in the battle of the specs.
Generating 296bhp from its familiar turbocharged 2.5-litre flat-four, the latest STi sprints from 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds and only runs out of steam when the speed limiter calls time at 155mph.
In the flesh it looks the part too. Addressing criticism that the current Impreza range has lost its stylistic mojo, the STi boasts aggressive flared wheel arches and packs a bonnet air intake that looks big enough to swallow a small child.
There's new technology too. Thanks to SI-Drive, the STi offers three modes of throttle mapping, including an 'Intelligent' mode that has a change-up light for economical driving. That's right: the STi has an economy mode. Should we be concerned?
Read on to find out if the STi has lost its way.
