Good value for money; a good compromise between performance and everyday usability.
Feels neither as quick nor as performance-focused as other WRX iterations.
Not the most hardcore of hot hatches, but exceedingly enjoyable nonetheless.

The Impreza only merited four stars under the new 2009 Euro NCAP crash test ratings - despite a very good 84% score for adult occupant protection, 73% for child protection and a meritable 72% for pedestrian protection. It was marked down because stability control and other preventative systems are not available in some models in the range.
This WRX has - as well as the grip-enhancing, road-biased all-wheel-drive system - a centre limited-slip differential and Subaru's electronic vehicle dynamics control, so would individually deserve a five-star score.
The WRX S specification also includes side and head-protecting curtain airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounting points and front seatbelt pre-tensioners, though the central rear seat only gets a lap-belt.
Security measures include a Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser, deadlocks and locking wheel nuts.
