Subaru scores well in reliability and customer satisfaction surveys, with any blips in its record usually down to privately-imported, Far Eastern-spec examples which have not been tuned to run on European fuel.
The Impreza has always stood up well to the use and abuse it gets from boy racers, and Subaru's flat-four 'boxer' engines are highly turbocharged, well-proven and durable.
The Impreza's cabin does feel dark and dated, however, with hard and cheap-looking black plastics. Still, who cares, when the car's so much fun to drive?
