Good value for money; a good compromise between performance and everyday usability.
Feels neither as quick nor as performance-focused as other WRX iterations.
Not the most hardcore of hot hatches, but exceedingly enjoyable nonetheless.

Subaru has always offered a bewildering range of awkwardly-initialled turbocharged Imprezas. The current hottest variant on the WRX theme is the WRX STi 330 (326bhp) but this model, the WRX S, is a more affordable, everyday alternative.
Featuring the PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) upgrade, the WRX S develops 255bhp, up from the standard WRX Turbo's 230bhp. It gets the STi body kit, but 'WRX S' badges, logos and carpet-mat embroidery, and comes in red, pearlescent black, pearlescent white or blue mica paint.
Prices start from a very reasonable £20,348 - not bad at all for a 255bhp hot hatch - but does that 'S' stand for soft?
