Lexus RX 300 (2003-) Review

Category: Sporting 4x4s 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Lexus RX 300 (2003-)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Quality, nice engine noise when you can hear it, very quiet, looks good; excellent Lexus reliability and customer service.

Drawbacks

Lacklustre performance, no diesel, auto 'box, float with coil springs, thump with air-suspension, not really an off-roader or towing vehicle.

Verdict

Scores well for refinement and specification, and a very good car for on-road use, but not particularly dynamic to drive, and not very versatile for something so large.

Review

Safety and Security5 out of 5

Although the RX 300 hasn't been Euro NCAP crash-tested, Lexus believes it would score very highly and has designed the machine to get top marks in America's NCAP tests. Anti-lock brakes and stability control are standard, though the latter is rather eager to cut in and a bit reluctant to cut out, beeping all the while. There are airbags aplenty, including a knee 'bag for the driver's legs, while remote central locking with an alarm is standard. Adaptive front lights, which angle around corners to increase the field of vision, are standard on the top of the range SE-L version, though we haven't had the chance to test their effectiveness yet.
