Smart, discrete 4x4 with a bias towards on-road behaviour. Comfortable, luxurious interior with typically solid Lexus build quality.
Forgotten in a marketplace that's now dominated by the X5, the Lexus has only one engine choice, others better it on and off road.
The RX 300 was late to arrive in the UK due to the insatiable US demand. Arriving in 2000 its short reign as king of the luxury road-biased 4x4s was short due to the arrival of the BMW X5. Since then it's faded into obscurity.

This is where the Lexus excels. It's a comfy big thing to be in, whether you're stuck in traffic or on a long motorway journey. Road, wind and engine noise are all well suppressed, the RX 300 having additional soundproofing installed in Europe to suit our higher motorway cruising speeds. The ride is smooth and the body well controlled, while the seats are comfy and electrically adjustable on all models. The steering wheel only adjusts for tilt, not reach, but most will be able to find a comfortable driving position easily. The RX 300 looks and feels like a pumped-up estate and there's a comparable amount of space inside. Rear legroom isn't over generous, but as long as your rear seat passengers are not built like basketball players they'll be comfortable enough. Plenty of cubbies around the cabin and numerous cup holders ensure you'll never be short of space to store your paraphernalia. The boot is shallow, but offers a decent amount of space and is easily accessed, whilst split-folding rear seats help carry longer loads.
