Loads of rear legroom and luggage space, affordable and unpretentious.
Small range to choose from, engines can be noisy.
Like the Renault Modus, only roomier - a very useful family car.

Standard kit includes ABS anti-lock brakes, front and side airbags (with passenger airbag cut-off switch, should you wish to put a child seat up front) and Isofix child seat mounting points. There's not the full array of curtain airbags offered in some models these days with the lower-spec versions, but SE and SVE versions do add two more. Top-spec models come with ESP stability control.
The Note is related to Renault's Clio and Modus, which have scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests, which bodes well for its structural integrity and the protection it can offer in the event of an impact, though it only scored four stars itself for overall adult protection. It gained three stars for child protection - after modifications to its ISOFIX child seat mountings, which broke in early tests and prompted a recall of the first Notes off the production line - and two for pedestrian protection.
Security-wise, there are a number of useful places to stow away valuables, including a tray under the front passenger seat, compartments under the luggage board in the boot, and a 'hidden' - refrigerated - glovebox behind a map pocket in the passenger side of the dashboard. An immobiliser, remote central locking and 'super-locking' system are standard; SVE models add the option of the keyless entry Intelligent Key system, though whether this is actually a bonus is open to question.
