Review

Safety and Security1 out of 5

The Blazer is solidly-built, and at least it has ABS anti-lock brakes and driver and passenger airbags - not all its rivals did, at the time. No stability control, however, a crucial aid to prevent a roll-over. Bear in mind that a tall, heavy SUV like this with a high centre of gravity is far more prone to toppling over in the event of an impact - or a sudden swerve - than a low-slung car. Security-wise, there's just an immobiliser: best add additional protective measures, as 4x4s are popular among thieves.
