Skoda Octavia (2004-) Review

Category: Small Family 4.5 out of 5

Summary of the Skoda Octavia (2004-)

Price Range: £16,966 to £16,966

Assets

Volkswagen engineering and quality in a better-value package, ample space with a huge boot, economical and high-tech engines, keen handling and an excellent ride.

Drawbacks

Styling is staid to some eyes.

Verdict

This is effectively a roomier Golf at a lower price. The Octavia is a complete and very capable car, and a very smart buy which should bury any lingering Skoda stigma for good.

Skoda Octavia Estate Review

Running Costs4 out of 5

If you want a high-economy petrol engine, the one to have is not the 1.4 but the 1.6 FSI. Similarly, the 2.0 TDI is more economical than the lower-tech 1.9; the new engine designs let you both own and consume the cake. Depending on how the Octavia is driven, servicing can be as infrequent as every 20,000 miles or two years, whichever comes first. A life of shorter journeys will make the engine's oil quality monitor demand more frequent services. The warranty is for three years and unlimited mileage, and Skoda guarantees the metalwork against perforation corrosion for 10 years.
