If your priority is efficient, dependable, comfortable family motoring, why pay more for a VW or Audi?

The Octavia was the car to really bring Skoda back into the mainstream European car market, and deservedly so. It is a practically sized hatchback or estate, built on the same underpinnings as the Volkswagen Golf and Bora, but bigger than both; it's not quite as large as a Passat or Audi A4, though. It is the well-priced, well-equipped but no-frills and no-pretensions family car in the VW Group range, and is a comfortable, well-engineered all-rounder. The Octavia might not be the most sporting, quirky-looking or sophisticated European family car, but it's built to a high quality and delivers decent levels of satisfaction (it consistently scores well in consumer surveys).
