Competent but dull handling, tightish rear space, lack of recognition
Accomplished car but not as sporty as it looks. No problem; check out the value it offers instead!

Leons depreciate more than Golfs, but as they also cost less, overall losses should be broadly similar. Fuel economy is as good as anything in this class, with the superb TDIs offering an exceptional 54mpg, and the 1.6-litre unit surprising with its 40mpg combined figure. Emissions are generally low for company car drivers, and insurance ratings are reasonable; only the Cupra is high, at a stiff Group 17. Servicing can be a little steep though, and shopping around for the best rates is definitely recommended. Used values are only average, due to Seat's still-low profile in the UK. They'll surely improve, once its image makeover begins to take further hold, though the dealer network will have to grow accordingly too; there are some top outlets out there, but some less-than sparking ones too. As for used numbers, Leons are still a bit rare and brought by more private buyers than some rivals, so numbers 'on the market' are still limited. But, conversely, they're likely to have been well cared-for. The Leon's forte. Not only do all variants feature a stack of equipment - even 1.4s get alloys, air conditioning, ABS, remote central locking, a brace of airbags and electric front windows - but the climate control, traction control and electronic differential system of SE models is the sort of stuff previously only seen on really posh cars. All this for £1000's less than a comparable Golf - now that's value.
