Seat Ibiza (2002-) Review

Category: Superminis 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Seat Ibiza (2002-)

Price Range: £10,995 to £11,625

Assets

Well made, attractively sporty interior, class-leading diesel performance, looks and feels more dynamic than its Polo relative.

Drawbacks

Doesn't deliver as much driving fun as promised, diesel rides poorly.

Verdict

Not as youthful and sporty as it's claimed to be, but still a quality job. The 1.4 petrol is the best all-rounder.

Seat Ibiza Review

Overview3.5 out of 5

Seat's 2006 facelift of its Ibiza supermini largely consists of an overhaul of its exterior and interior styling and an updating of its engine range.

This version of the Ibiza has been designed with the young buyers in mind. Its sporty styling follows cues from the Seat Leon, Altea and Toledo models, which can be most obviously seen in the new wraparound front bumper and honeycomb grille, flanked by double headlights on all models. There are also changes to the rear bumpers, with 100bhp-plus models also getting sporty exhaust pipe tips.

Inside, there are new interior fabrics and designs, plus new steering wheels and gear knobs with more modern designs.

There's also a new line-up of 11 different engines - five diesel and six petrol - ranging from a 1.2-litre 64bhp entry-level to the top-of-the-range 1.8-litre Cupra that generates 180bhp. The diesel range offers the most powerful in its class, the 1.9-litre TDI that develops 160bhp.

There are five trim levels: Reference, Stylance, Sport, FR and Cupra. ABS, twin airbags and 15" are standard across the range, with curtain bags, ESP, MP3 players and bi-xenon lights among the options available.
