Individuality, detail design and generous equipment levels, room, comfort and safety equipment. Turbo engines very effective.
Pricey, and a little inspirationless to drive. Quality not top-notch.
In 9-3 guise (this model was previously badged 900 and has been around for quite some years) Saab's smallest can no longer match the class best.

The Saab costs less to service than most of its competitors, but that is offset by heavier depreciation than rivals suffer. Insurance, however, is slightly cheaper, and its cost per mile average. Most have been well looked after and reliability and quality is reasonable, so makes a decent used buy. Not cheap though, and servicing can be pricey too. The 9-3 doesn't drive quite as classily as its price suggests, but it is well equipped, coming with twin airbags and sidebags as standard, as well as anti-lock brakes, electric windows and door mirrors. A CD player and air conditioning feature on most models too.
