Category: Convertibles
Price Range: £26,030 to £34,622
Comfortable, creak-free and very complete car that should prove a pleasure to own
Some wind noise hood-up, not terribly exciting to drive, confined in rear
Attractive styling, few flaws and good to be in

Against the previous 9-3 Convertible, this is nothing less than a quantum leap, the vastly stiffer body banishing the shivering creaks that beset the old car the test cars produced absolutely no squeaks or rattles.
The quality of materials used in the cabin is a step forward too, if not quite a match for the supreme standards set by Audi. External panel fit is good, too.
The reliability record of the 9-3 saloon on which the Convertible is based looks, so far, pretty well unblemished, apart from some now-sorted problems with the ignition control of the 2.0-litre engines. The diesel engine is also used in a number of Vauxhall/Opel models, and the Holden-built V6 in a few GM ranges worldwide, including the Cadillac CTS: these units, relatively new to Saab, should thus have been thoroughly de-bugged by now.
