Good handling, versatile cabin, fine ride.
Unenthusiastic engine, vague steering, only seats four.
Cheerful, but not very cheap, Twingo is let down by a lacklustre engine and hefty price tag.

Until recent times there were only two kinds of city cars: the good (expensive) and the cheap (nasty).
Then cars like the Hyundai i10 and Kia Picanto arrived. Both are cheap, but capable, well equipped and better still, likeable.
With prices beginning at £7,500 (£1,000 more than the i10), the expensive Twingo better be very good indeed.
Smart, although not as cute nor as stylish as a Fiat 500, the Twingo gets off to a good start being both better looking than its cheaper alternatives.
Until now we've only driven the 99bhp turbocharged 1.2 Turbo. Now it's time to try the more reasonably priced 74bhp 1.2 16v that ditches the turbo - it averages almost 50mpg and hits 62mph in a reasonable 12 seconds.
Pricing for the Dynamique 1.2 16v begins at £8,395 and that doesn't even include air conditioning. With new capable rivals like the i10 with aircon starting at £6,495, what does the Renault offer?
